Fresh 48’s

Photography is art.  I think that’s a pretty well accepted fact.  I know modern cameras and cell phone cameras have given the idea that photography is just about the equipment and anyone can do it (and they can…with some studying) but it’s not as easy as it looks.  Not to most anyway.

And newborn photography is an art all of it’s own.  Seriously.  The angles and light and room temp..oh and not to mention the brand new baby that has to be kept warm, safe and comfortable.

P.s.  They almost always pee and poop during their session. Yes while naked. Probably while you’re holding them.

There are some really amazing newborn photographers out there locally and nationally.  Their work is truly beautiful.  Seriously.  That being said, I am not one of them.

I tried a newborn session. Gave it my best shot.  One baby, two sessions. For my first ever newborn session, the images weren’t terrible.  Yes, they could have been better but I was pretty proud of it considering I had never really studied how to photograph a newborn.  I just decided it wasn’t for me.

Maybe I’ll take some classes and try another newborn session one day.  But for now..I will stick to Fresh 48 sessions.

Fresh 48 sessions are done in the hospital room.  They take place 24-48 hours after baby is born (but before you go home).  When babe is sleeping and wrapped tightly.  Sometimes still fuzzy from the womb.  Fingers and toes.  It will be quiet with no harsh artificial lights, just the natural light coming in the window.   There is no complicated prep.  No three hours in a studio. No worries. Fresh 48’s take 30-45 minutes at the most.  I can capture just your baby or we can do mom and dad images too.  Siblings are fun too!

You can stay in bed or stand by the window. Hold your sweet wee one or let them lay peacefully in the bassinet or on your bed. The thing I love most about these sessions is there are no rules.  No posing.  Just going with the natural flow of the minute and what works best for baby (and mom and dad).  It is fun, relaxed and the perfect way to document the newest member of your family.

And just so we’re clear..I’m not saying don’t go for the full newborn session.  Just consider this also.  If you’re looking for a newborn photographer, I will absolutely refer you to someone local that will do a fabulous job.  It just won’t be me. 😉

If you’re adding to your family soon, I encourage you to consider a Fresh 48 Session.  Your baby is only brand new for a day or two.  They change so quickly.  Let me capture the new for you. Sweet memories you can look back on for years to come. And if you book this month (March 2019) I have a special rate for you.  Let’s chat and get you all set up.  You do not want to forget these days.  They so quickly slip from the memory because newborn fuzz and tiny wrinkled fingers and toes don’t keep.  You will be so grateful to have these to look back on in a few years.
